The Living Word~

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Living Word
Can you just a second Imagine yourself deaf unable to hear the voices of your loved ones and blind to the sight of their faces. When we were at the Washington National Cathedral we saw the Memorial place where Helen Keller and her beloved tutor Anne Sullivan were Entombed. The names were in braille and so many people had rubbed it, the braille dots were almost worn off.
Helen Keller has always been a woman I admire I wanted
to use her in my devotions today. I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year, a fresh start. I hope and pray we all can achieve or goals in life and stay in God's word and draw closer to him in 2009. Please pray for me as I strive to be a better Christian, Mother, neighbor, wife and friend.

Helen Keller grew up in a world shut in by blindness and deafness. She became an almost uncontrollable "wild child" One day Helen while playing with a new doll her patient tutor Anne Sullivan placed the doll in Helen's lap and signed the letter
d-o-l-l in her palm repeatedly. But Helen didn't understand. As the tutor tried to help her connect this thing in her lap with the signs on her palm Helen became agitated. She slammed the doll on the floor, breaking it to pieces.
Late Miss Sullivan took the unruly girl down to the well house. Some one was pumping water. She placed Helen's hand under the cool water flow, the tutor spelled out w-a-t-e-r on her other palm. Suddenly it clicked in the girl's mind.Late Helen Recalled. " The mystery of language was revealed to me. I knew then 'w-a-t-e-r' meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, set it free!" You know these things are what I have in my heart because of our precious Lord and saviour. I just get those Holy ghost chill bumps typing this. I hope you have the peace in your heart today.
Back to the devotions :) The soul of this child who was deaf and blind was set free my the discovery of the living word. God's living word, the Bible, illumines the darkness of our minds and sets us free as well. You to can experience the exhilarating freedom that the living Word brings. Take a few verses at time. Ask yourself these questions regarding the passage you are reading. What is God personalizing saying to me in this scripture? What does this passage teach me about the character of God? Is there anything in this passage that speaks to my own spiritual life? I am praying and planning to try and read the Bible through in 2009. I'm going to do this online at Bible.com I have tried many times but never have completed it because I felt like I wasn't getting enough of what I needed from the scriptures. I hope you will join me. It does not replace holding the Bible in your hand and reading it. The devil tries so hard to stop us from reading and holding our Bibles. This site takes different scriptures each day for you to read and study.

I am still reading in Psalms it is a great place to begin your study. I take one chapter at a time.Read the verses and allow the Holy spirit to impress your mind and I always pray and ask God to help me to study the Bible and block out anything else that might be hindering my Bible studies. In the Psalms I have found praise, thanksgiving, requests, petitions, confession, repentance or intercession. As you allow the living Word to shape your thoughts you will be set free to know God in a close, intimate way. Today, allow that living Word to truly set you free.

God Bless You

Hi Lisa!
I have missed so much! I enjoy reading at bible.com also! I remember watching the movie about helen keller and the well/water scene was one of my favorites. I like the way you used it to illustrate the Spiritual water in comparison. Great Post!

I hope to get back to posting more often. Time just gets away from me! lol

Hi Lisa, What a great devotion you've given us today. You are so right, the devil gets in the way of all the good that he can. We must simply push him aside and be confident that we are on the right track with God. Thank you. You are a true Blessing. Kae

Hi Lisa,
I too am trying to read more of the precious word this year. The physical dieting is important to me, but not as important as my spiritual food. I will pray for you as well, that 2009 will be a year of spiritual enlightment and a nearness to our Heavenly Father like we have never experienced before.

A wonderful illustration about Helen Keller and the WATER...

How thankful I am each day that the Water of the WORD OF GOD flows freely and is able to quench the thirst of our souls to the refreshings of new life found in the LORD Jesus Christ.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful devotion.

Lisa,
God bless you on your post that you did on the 5th. of this month.
I too am trying to do the same as you are doing for the year 2009.
I have wanted to try this for a long time and just never even tried as I knew I would fail and that made me feel like I was failing God.
So far so good only to the glory of our wonderful God.
I too have that thanksgiving, peace, love, joy so full in my heart for what all he has done for me.
I love you and want to say again thank you for your beautiful post.

Hey Lisa,
I just read through the Bible last year, and completely enjoyed it! I would love to get the chronological Bible to read this year. Something else I've been trying to do is read through Proverbs each month. 31 chapters works out to be about 1 a day for 7 of the months, and I just double up towards the end on the other months with less days.
My cousin sent me a link to a great site for quick references in the Bible. I don't have it in front of me right now, so if you're interested, just leave me a comment. (My comments are now moderated, so I won't post it.)
Have a blessed week,
Hugs,
Karen

I love Hellen Keller also. We went to visit her home in Alabama. If you get a chance and haven't been there, you should go some time. You will love to see where she lived even the little cabin where she was taken for Anne to teach her.

I love the Bible. It is God making Himself known to us. It is His very WORDS that we can hold in our hands and read. Have a great year. connie

A friend of ours gave my dd (to borrow) a braille "writer". It is metal and you can write the whole alphabet and write cards or whatever to anyone. We have a blind woman in our church so Becca wrote her a letter in braille. Becca can even "read" it herself.
I try to read Psalms all the time..comforting.
Have a great weekend.

Lisa this is a beautiful blog. I have missed so much. It was truly lovely seeing you today. I am so glad to meet you. The water analogy is awesome. God is so good to provide us such wonderful refreshment and cleasing through His word. I am blessed for your encouragement to read Psalms. I told myself this morning during my quiet time I wanted to read the 119 psalm. You have confirmed my desire. Look forward to reading more of your blog. Anna
