Memorial Day~

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

Let's not forget their families
Great pain they had to bear
Losing a son, father or husband
They need to know we still care

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

I hope we all take time out from our holiday to honor those soldier's who have served, died and are now serving our country . When my family and I were on spring break this year in Washington, DC. We stayed very close to Arlington cemetery. So close we joked that we were sleeping there. I just could not stop looking at the rows and rows of markers that represent soldier's who died serving their country. I have walked through this cemetery on another trip to DC and we also went to the Vietnam wall. It was a very patriotic moving experience.
I give honor and thank God for all who serve our country.
God Bless America

Amen to that. I think that most people have forgotten why we even celebrate Memorial Day - they just see it as a day for cooking out and sales at the mall. I have always made sure that my children know the reasons behind these holidays and that we constantly pray for and honor the brave men and women who serve and have died for our country.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Such a good post...
Before our children were born, my husband was in the Navy. During that time, we were stationed in the east and had a chance to visit some of the very cemeteries you mentioned. We also visited Gettysburg...such a haunting feeling there to see where so many died.

Every year we visit the gravesights of my husband's family. His dad actually fought in WWII and always gets a flag placed there.

On a different note, you'll have to stop by if you have a chance and see my recent post on our home school group visiting a historic pioneer place here in Oregon! :)

A blessed weekend to you!

Very nice! I like the poem. I will have to share that with my husband as he was active duty for the USCG and now is still in the reserves with them and works full time contracted out in Grand Haven.

We do need to remember everything and be greatful for all that they have done for us.

I would love to go visit Washington DC sometime too and see all that you have. Sounds like a great experience.

Love ya my blogger friend!
